Founded in 1898 by Paul Kruger, the former President of the South African Republic, the park’s creation was driven by his deep passion for wildlife conservation. His vision sparked the protection of Africa’s endangered species, ensuring their survival for generations to come. As you immerse yourself in Kruger’s beauty, you’ll also have an opportunity meet the Shangaan people who have called the Kruger home since the 19th century. This indigenous group has a culture of storytelling, music and dance. They have developed their own musical instruments, such as the “fayi”, which is akin to a flute, as well as the “xitende”, a braced-bow instrument made using a leather thong. In February 1999 the Shangana Cultural Village was opened, where you can learn more about their culture, purchase their art and listen to their captivating stories passed down through generations."
